A little over a year ago, I got a phone call from another caddy on the LPGA/ Symetra Tour. This phone call lead to a job that has lasted me ever since then. That week, Veronica Felibert of Caracas, Venezuala hired me to be her caddy in Marion, Iowa. She finished tied for 8th place and has kept me ever since then. It has been one of the coolest experiences to watch her excel and move up in the professional golf ranks. Veronica practices more than anyone I have ever seen or heard of, and I have been along with her for the ride to the LPGA. Before I was working with her, she was making around fifty percent of her cuts. Since then, we have only missed one cut together; she has made it through the LPGA’s qualifying tournament, and has made her first cut on the LPGA Tour. Not only has she made a cut on the LPGA Tour, but she qualified for the 67th United States Women’s Open. On May 15th, we started our 36 hole qualifier for the Open. Veronica was three under par through 16 holes and double bogeyed her par 5 17th. With a par on her 18th hole of the day, she finished with a one under 71 which put us in a tie for fifth.

With the low 5 scores getting into the open, we knew we had to play well on the second 18. We teed off a little after 1:00 PM and made it through 6 holes before an hour rain delay. This delay forced us to finish our 2nd 18 holes on the 16th. We had 5 holes left to play, knowing we needed to play them well. In 2010, Veronica birdied this same hole to get into the U.S. Open.

We came to this hole at two over par for the event, and she birdied it to get to one over. We parred seventeen, and coming to eighteen, we knew we had to have a birdie. Two days before, me and my buddy Charlie had been rolling putts on this green. We actually had the EXACT read for the putt Veronica had. I gave her the read, and she made the putt to qualify for the United States Open!!! Right now, we are preparing for our 2nd official LPGA tournament in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Hopefully in a few weeks, we will be able to do a great job at the United States Women’s Open!
