CSU Women Continue Strong Season
The Charleston Southern University Women’s Golf Team opened their spring season at the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic hosted by the College of Charleston, February 26-28 on Kiawah Island Cougar Point and Oak Point Golf Courses.  The CSU women finished with a strong final round and the best score of the day for the consolation round held on the Oak Point Course.  The Lady Bucs shot 322-305-306 for a total of 933 (+69), taking 18th place overall in the thirty-three team field.  Augusta State, led by former CSU Women’s Golf Coach Kory Thompson, won the event with a total of 877 (+13), a full 22 shots in front of the field.
Amanda D’Ostroph was the top finisher for the Bucs with a score of 231 (+15).  Fanny Cnops won individual medalist honors with a 214 (-2).
The Lady Bucs shot 308-314-315 to place 13th overall with a total of 937 (+73), at the Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate held March 16-18 at Forrest Hills Country Club in Augusta, GA.  University of Texas – San Antonio won the team title with a score of 880 (+16).
D’Ostroph and Torey Johnson tied for 34th place overall to lead CSU in scoring with a total of 231 (+15).  Purdue University’s Paula Reto took Individual Medalist Honors with a score of 207 (-9), a full ten shots in front of the field.
The Lady Bucs continued their season at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Classic at River Landing Country Club in Wallace, NC, held March 24-25.  The Bucs finished in 8th place with a team score of 307-309-310 for a total of 926 (+62).  East Carolina University won the event with a score of 866 (+2).
Johnson led the way for the Bucs with a score of 225(+9), finishing in 19th place.  Nicole Sakamoto from James Madison University won Individual Medalist Honors with a score of 212 (-4).
The CSU Women’s Golf Team have just one more event left before closing out their season and heading to the Big South Women’s Conference Championship held April 9-11 at The Patriot Grand Harbor in Ninety-Six, SC.

 

CofC Ladies Take 5th in Kiawah
College of Charleston Ladies Golf Team hosted the Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic held February 26-28 at Kiawah Island Cougar Point and Oak Point Golf Courses.  The Lady Cougars finished strong, shooting the lowest team score of the tournament on the final day, 292 (+4) to give them a three round total of 910 (+46), moving them into 5th place overall.  Augusta State won the event with a total of 877 (+13), a full 22 shots in front of the rest of the field of thirty-three teams from all across the country.
Junior Kathy Boehm led the Cougars in scoring with a total of 221 (+5), finishing in 9th place overall.  Ainhoa Nogales competed as an individual and finished in 17th place with a score of 226 (+10).  Fanny Cnops won individual medalist honors with a 214 (-2).
The Lady Cougars traveled to Baton Rouge, LA for the LSU/Cleveland Classic held Mach 9-11 at the University Club, hosted by Louisiana State University.  The Cougars finished in 13th place with a three round score of 322-307-313 for a total of 942 (+78).  The University of Tennessee won the event with a team total of 880 (+16).
Junior Vanessa Koechli led the way for CofC, tying for 16th place with a score of 226 (+10).  Catherine O’Donnell of University of North Carolina and Erica Popson of Tennessee tied for Individual Medalist Honors with a score of 214 (-2).
The CofC Women hosted the Pinehurst Challenge, held March 19-20 at Pinehurst #6 in Pinehurst, NC.  CofC finished in 11th place overall, with a score of 307-304-299 for a total of 910 (+46).  North Carolina State won the event with a total of 865 (+1), a full 17 shots in front of the rest of the field.
Senior Leigh Whittaker led the way for the Cougars shooting 77-73-73 for a total of 223 (+7) to finish in a tie for 17th place overall.  Brittany Marchand of NC State won Individual Medalist Honors with a score of 211 (-5).
The Cougars will compete in just one more event before heading to the Southern Conference Championship held April 15-17 at Moss Creek Golf Club on Hilton Head Island, SC

 

CSU Men Take 4th Place at Charleston Shootout
Charleston Southern University Men’s Golf Team tied their best finish ever at the Charleston Shootout hosted by College of Charleston February 27-28 at The Links at Stono Ferry.  The Bucs shot rounds of 288-287-296 for a total of 871(+7).  University of Florida won the event with a total of 844 (-20).
Jacob Pastor came away one stroke shy of taking the Individual Medalist Honors for a second straight year with rounds of 67-70-70 for a total of 207 (-9).  Florida’s TJ Vogel took top honors with a 206 (-10).  David Denlinger of CSU took 3rd place with a 209 (-7).
The Bucs tied for 5th place at the Furman Intercollegiate hosted by Furman University at the Furman Golf Course in Greenville, SC.  Rounds of 292-288-287 for a total of 867 (+3) placed them in a tie with University of Georgia.  Clemson University won the event for the third straight year with a score of 838 (-26).
Pastor was the top finisher for CSU, shooting rounds of 74-69-69 for a total of 212 (-4), placing him in a tie for 7th place.  Sebastian Soderberg of Coastal Carolina won Individual Medalist Honors with a 204 (-12).
The Bucss finished in a tie for 9th place at the Linger Longer Invitational held March 24-25 and hosted by Kennesaw State at Great Waters Golf Course in Greensboro, GA.  The Bucs shot team totals of 297-310-298 for a total of 896 (+32).  University of Alabama won the event with a total of 838 (-26).
Pastor and Denlinger tied for 9th place with a score of 216 even par for both.  Nick Reach of University of Georgia and Cory Whitsett of Alabama tied for Individual Medalist Honors with a score of 208 (-8).
The CSU Men will compete in one more tournament before the Big South Conference Championship held April 9-10 at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, SC.

 

CofC Men Take Back-To-Back 8th Place Finishes
College of Charleston Men’s Golf Team continued their spring season with back-to-back 8th place finishes in March at the Cleveland Palmetto Intercollegiate and the Morris Williams Intercollegiate.  Clemson University won the event with rounds of 286-285-283 for a total of 854(+14).
Senior Henry Smart fired a final round with 1-under 69 to lead the CofC in the final round of the Cleveland Palmetto Intercollegiate held March 5-6 at the Palmetto Golf club in Aiken, SC.  The Cougars finished with rounds of 297-288-290 for a total of 875 (+35) taking 8th place.  Smart finished at 217 (+7) to finish in a tie for 14th place overall with teammate Seth Stuart.
The Cougars again finished in 8th place at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate held March 16-17 at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, TX.  The Cougars shot rounds of 292-300-294 for a total of 886 (+34).  Host team University of Texas won the event with scores of 281-280-282 for a total of 843 (-9).
Freshman Shane Rogan led the way with rounds of 71-70-71 for a total of 212 (-1), leaving him in 7th place overall, just four shots out of a three-way tie for 1st place which included Jordan Spieth from Texas who has played in multiple PGA tour events.
The Cougars have just one more event before wrapping up their season and heading to the Southern Conference Championship held April 15-17 at the Ralston Creek Golf Course in Daniel Island.
